Dating Apps: How to Go on a Virtual Date

How to Go on a Virtual Date – It’s more difficult than ever to meet someone if you’re single and looking. Still, if you’re dead set on meeting someone, you may try a virtual or video dating app or service.

In this Covid-19 era, dating applications have typically done well. Match Group, which owns Tinder, Hinge, and Match.com, recently submitted a letter with the US Securities and Exchange Commission stating that Tinder and Hinge were thriving. After the lockdowns began, the number of messages sent between users increased by 30%.

It’s understandable why this is the case. Obviously, you won’t be able to meet someone at a pub or a social gathering. With social separation becoming the new norm, several of these sites are promoting virtual dating. You can meet and get to know each other using a computer or a smartphone app. After that, you might wish to meet up in person.

Laurie Berzack, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based matchmaker and dating coach who runs Carolinas Matchmaker, is a proponent of this method of meeting people. “Virtual dating allows you to keep track of your love life without ever leaving your house,” she explains.

She offers the following advice to individuals who want to try virtual dating:

Take it seriously. She says, “Present your finest self.” “Taking care of your complete appearance (rather than just your waistline) will give you the confidence to make the most of your time together.”

Look behind you. For your virtual date or video profile, she recommends finding the most pleasing environment. “I’ll give you a hint,” she offers. “It’s not your unmade bed,” says the narrator.

Don’t get caught off guard. “Practice with a friend to ensure you understand how to utilize your video chat platform and have stable connectivity,” Berzack suggests.

Virtual Dating Apps to consider

With that in mind, here are a few dating apps worth trying:

  • Bumble.
  • Tinder.
  • Hinge.
  • Match.com.

Bumble

Price. Free, or you can pay $24.99 for extra features.

How it works. You scroll through profiles and swipe right if you think the individual is interesting and left if you don’t.

This is a female-only dating platform that has been compared to Tinder. The ladies send the first message, and if the man does not respond within 24 hours, he forfeits his opportunity to respond.

Recently, the website has been on a roll, adding new features like the ability to send audio notes to one another.

What can help you with virtual dating? Last year, Bumble launched a video chat and voice calling option. A video symbol and a phone icon will display in the top right-hand corner of your conversation screen once you’ve been matched.

And if you want to talk, you don’t have to exchange phone numbers.

Hinge

Price. Free, or for additional features, you can pay $4.99 to $9.99 a month, depending on how many months you want to purchase.

How it works. You create a fairly detailed profile and upload images. Then you go through the profiles that other people have created. In that sense, it’s a fairly conventional dating site. A heart emblem can be found on every profile. You can tap it by sending a “like” to that specific person. You can also hit the “X” icon to see the profile of the next member.

What can help you with virtual dating? A new “Date from Home” feature has been added. If you’re conversing with a Hinge match, the app will ask if you’re ready to talk on the phone or video chat.

If you and the other person wish to talk, you may set up a FaceTime, Skype, or Zoom session – or simply converse on the phone.

Tinder

Price. Tinder is free, but you can upgrade to Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold if you want more features. The cost varies depending on region and age (you pay more if you’re older). You may pay $29.99 per month on the high end.

How it works. You can sign up with your phone number or your Facebook account, though your membership will not be visible to other Facebook users. You’ll be paired with other Tinder profiles in your area once you’ve completed your profile.

What can help you with virtual dating? Tinder has made its Passport function available to everyone for free, allowing you to swipe profiles from all over the world. Of course, it’s a fun concept. However, if you connect with your soul mate online, you may need to find out how to meet in person one day.

Match.com

Price. It’s free to create a profile and look around, but not much else. You’ll pay $35.99 for a month. If you pay for several months at a time, you’ll save money and pay less per month, such as $19.99 for a three-month basic plan and $17.99 for a six-month standard plan.

How it works. As with many dating sites, you set up a profile and browse other profiles.

What can help you with virtual dating? Match.com reported in its filing letter that it will be offering the ability to chat through video soon.

It also offers a new feature called Date Check-In, which automatically sends messages to friends or family members you add to a list once you’re ready to go on a real-world date. When you schedule a date, you can notify three friends, providing the date, time, location, and name of the person you’ll be meeting. You’ll also be notified that you’ve arranged a Date Check-In with your date. That isn’t a guarantee that your date won’t be strange, but it should provide some incentive for folks to be on their best behavior.
